Well good evening once again.
I need some info or other help with cousins Savage 99 .243.
We were shooting this afternoon and found this rifle would not feed 100 gr. Winchester pointed bullets. Bullet nose would catch just below the chamber opening. This is the only ammo we have at this time.
This is the rotary mag model.
Shot up most of a box one shot at a time.
It ain't new but had never been sighted in.

Well, I looked into the problem some more(with a bright light) and found a sharp shoulder at the rear of the chamber about .050 wide just at the end of the feed ramp. I rounded off the point of a bullet and it feed just fine.
So, the guestion is just shoot round nose bullets? I thought .243 was designed for those pointy little things.
The other choise is to dremel a slight radious of the shoulder.
This area is under the rim so no problem with leaving it unsupported.
And, no, it is not a problem with the mag spring.

Thanks for the reply.
The pictures are excellent. That shows the shoulder at the rear of the barrel where the pointed nose bullets hang up. I will get back to this gun next week, doing some remodeling this week.
Will post what I find or do.
