Can anyone help me find a good gunsmith in the Vancouver wa. Portland Ore, area ? I just bought a partially completed Rifle and need open sights installed. It seems all the old guys that knew what to do are gone. Should have become a Gunsmith instead of a Taxidermist. Thanks for the help.

Good evening Sir !

I'm not sure what part of the state he's in but you might want to look in on Mr. Ryan Breeding... (rbbigbores.com).  He's in California .  His web site shows some mighty great looking LARGE bore rifles that look awesome looking. And I've read that he learned from The Late Great "Gil Van Horn". Another master large bore rifle-smith.
Good Luck !

Thankyou, I'll look him up. But how did you know it was a (kind of) bigbore? It's a 460 Guns and Ammo cartridge. Anyone have any Dies for this thing?  Or the .404 Jeffery brass? Were in a recesion and I'm a taxidermist, but somehow we always find a way to pay cash for what we want and finance what we need. It must be the american way. Has anyone shown up to the shoot and, shot a commemorative Keith S&W? I'm tempted.......Thanks for the help this is a great site, wish I found it much sooner.  Don

Hello Sir,  Funny,  I can remember back in the early to mid-70's when Tom Siatos and Jack lott announced their .460 G&A in Guns & Ammo.  I was young but intrigued. Always liked big bores.  A few years ago I had a very nice Ruger No. 1 in .458 Win Mag that I sent off to Champlin Firearms in Enid OK and had their resident gunsmith J.J. Peradou--spelling might be wrong but not out of disrespect, re chambered it for Jack Lotts .458 Lott. This was before Ruger offered it as a standard chambering. It was a fantastically accurate rifle making 3 shot clover leaf groups off sandbags at 50 yards with open sights, (when I did my part & thought of something pleasant just before I pulled the trigger),  like FUZZY PLAYFUL PUPPIES !   When I bought my present,  I needed several hundred dollars that I didn't have at the time and I sold off the rifle for what I needed.  I'm very thankful I have this house,  and also that I had a very nice gun to help get the house with !  Any way, I did use it to take a few close up ground hogs..."10" if I remember correctly.  I'm waiting for the day Ruger comes out with their No. 1 in .500 Nitro.  Then I'll be happy.  sure I'd like a .600 Nitro more or even a .700 Nitro. But the .500 is alittle more practical for PA deer & groundhogs.
So good luck luck with your .460 G&A !
