When I was a kid, in the '50s, for several years I thought Elmer Keith was my uncle. My father always referred to him as Uncle Elmer. I remember asking Dad why Uncle Elmer didn't come to visit..............
I have an autographed copy of "Hell, I was There" that was signed by Elmer on November 29, 1981, just before he suffered the stroke. It is one of my greatest treasures...............
