I have purchased a 1903 Springfield rifle at an auction. Upon examination it has an inspectors mark OGEK in a rectangle.  Mt Brophy's springfield book lists those initials as Odgen Arsenal - Elmer Keith.  I am of course looking for info. Did Elmer work at the arsenal? What years? Where is Odgen arsenal? I feel I have a real gem here being that it was handled by Elmer who inspected and maybe even retrofitted it. Would appreciate any info available or what channels I could use to obtain the answers.

Could prove to be quite the find.
Someone hereabouts should be able to help you out.
Can you post some photos?
Good to have you aboard.

I think in his book Hell I Was There he talks of being an inspector with the military.

Hi Red
You really need to read 'Hell I was there'. It covers most of Elmers life and tells a sad story about Ogden arsenal. He personaly tested many of the rifles and REJECTED lots of them. To many there just wanted a safe haven during the war.
and welcome to the site.
