I can only dream now in taking a polar bear with a handgun in Alaska. The same with a tiger.....

Hi James,
I had an Uncle..my grandfathers brother, their both dead now, that had shot a big polar bear back in the 50's or early 60's on the northern slope of Alaska when they still had polar bear hunting. I saw the rug about 20-some years ago which was huge. Had to been a 10 footer for sure & I wish I could remember how big he said it was. He shot it with a wildcat cartridge of his own design as he was a part-time gunsmith & full time machinist. It was what he named a .35 R.K. Special.  The R. K. stood for Randall & the K. stood for Kusky, his last name. Randall was Dr. Randall that was his best friend & hunting partner that helped pay for alot of thier hunting trips all over the western U. S. They both got grand slams of sheep & bears back in the 50's & 60's. Any way the .35 R.K. Spl was a .378 Weatherby case necked down to .358 diamiter with sharp shoulders. They also made a shorter wildcat named the .30 R.K. Spl. for long range sheep & mountain goat hunting that was a .378 Weatherby case necked down to .308 diamiter & a shorter sharp shouldered case.  This was all done back in the 50's. His rifles he made up from what I thought was magnum Mauser actions and had nice wood stocks on the Monte-Carlo design. He was a real charecter & fun to listen to his stories. Just wanted to share that with you & hoped it wasnt boring.
Take Care !

Chris, Please forgive me for the late reply to your most interesting story about your most interesting uncle....He really loved his guns and hunting. The stories his hunting rifles could tell would be something to hear. What became of his guns and trophies??

Hi James,
No problem with the late reply !   My Uncles son, which I think would be my 2nd or 3rd cousin move to Long Beach California and took all his guns, reloading equipment, animal trophies, and the film's of my Uncles hunts all over the West & S. America with him.  I remembered he also shot some type of Jaguar some where south of Texas. Sorry but I can't remember where ? I never kept in touch with my cousin as he was much older than me and we never had anything in common.
Thanks for getting back to me though.
Take Care,
Chris
