Greetings all, This is my first time posting. I recently acquired a pristine 4" 29 after many years of looking. I don't have the $ for ivories like the grand ol man used so I thought I would get a set made from an elk I killed in co a few years ago. They will have a palm swell on the right side instead of a carving like his to fill the hand. I would also get them without any bark due to the recoil of the load. Does anyone have any experience with antler grips? Will they hold up ok? Thanks CGM __________________ cgm |

Sounds like a good project. Ace has done some Knife handles, Maybe he'll check in with some advice. Keep us posted, and take some pictures of the steps involved. __________________ “If it rolls, floats, flies or shoots, runs on gasoline or gunpowder, goes fast or shoots a big bullet and makes lots of noise, thus producing torque and recoil — it’s cool.”

Although I did make a set of grips for a J frame 22 from a mulie drop I picked up, they are kinda rough and the dust killed me. My local gun shop turned me on to Patrick Grashorn in Greely CO and I have seen his work, it looks pretty good. __________________ cgm |

CGM, WELCOME ABOARD! ELK ARE LARGE ANIMALS AND ARE PRETTY ROUGH ON THEIR HORNS IN THEIR NATURAL HABITAT. I WOULDN'T WORRY ABOUT THAT .44 HURTING THEM. I HAVE HAD A LOT OF STAG STOCKS OVER THE YEARS AND NEVER ONE PROBLEM. THEIR COLOR WILL TAKE ON A MELLOW WARM PATINA OVER THE YEARS. THEY WILL LOOK EVEN BETTER. CONGRADULATIONS ON GETTING YOUR MODEL 29. PLEASE POST US SOME PICS. MB
