I recently got interesting in reloading to save a few bucks. In the process of my self education I googled the phrase "cast hollow points" The second entry that appeared read "Elmer Keith was a major proponent of cast hollow-points, but interest in this area has waned in recent years. This is really unfortunate because some really ..." So I said to my wife "that takes me down memory lane" ...
It seems that in the early 80's I was working as a physical therapy aide at a rehabilitation hospital in Boise Idaho. I was working with a gentleman by the name of Elmer Keith who had suffered a pretty major stroke and was no longer able to speak. One day I was with Mr Keith in the lobby and he spotted a copy of guns and ammo, opened the cover and pointed to his name. I believe his title at the time was executive editor. I don't really remember a lot about Elmer, except that he seemed to be a really nice man. He was always ready to go for therapy and he laughed at most of my jokes, and rolled his eyes at the rest. I wish I had more to say about the man himself, but I have never seen a copy of Guns and Ammo without thinking of him. I also think it's really cool that I can now tell people that I worked with the guy who developed the 357 magnum round. |

He seems to have touched a lot of souls. Have you read "Hell, I was there!"? Best place (IMHO) to get a good overview of his life. __________________ “If it rolls, floats, flies or shoots, runs on gasoline or gunpowder, goes fast or shoots a big bullet and makes lots of noise, thus producing torque and recoil — it’s cool.”
