Hello Folks
Do any of yall look at reloading and casting stuff on ebay?
They have a keith 38/357 Hollow Point I'd like to have.
I don't shoot a lot of handguns under 40 cal.
But my pocket gun is a S&W 340 M&P
I think this bullet would be hard to beat for it.
If it does'nt expand it still has .358 driving band.
I have'nt seen one for sell and don't know what it's worth.
If anyone would care to look it's #160304313768.
Let me know what you think.

Thanks

Hi Southernman
buying on ebay, you have to know the value of the item cause some people bid way more than an item lists for. also handles for lyman blocks are around $30 and shipping. lyman molds are around $50 but the hollow point would be more.
good luck, ace

Hello  Ace
Lyman does not make a Keith type Hollow Point anymore.
I think only a very few custom makers do.
I don't know of any place to get a Keith HP for less than $100 new.
If anybody does please let me know.

Thanks Southern Man

It's up to 75.00. Are you bidding on it?
I am looking for a mold for my .454, would like a 300-350 gr bullet to shoot out of a .45 colt case at around 800-1000 fps. Suggestions?

Hello Al

I have a Freedom Arms 83 Premier 7.5" .454
I use the RCBS 300 swc-gc in it with a compressed load of W-296 ,for almost 1800 FPS and unbelievable accuracy.
Killed an Antelope in Wy. with it last year @ 70 Yards.
The front driving band on it is not wide enough to call it a Keith bullet and you may not need the Gas Checks for 1000 Fps.
For lighter loads I use the RCBS 270 - SAA.
It was recently designed by Dave Scovil.
A lot of folks call it a slightly improved Keith bullet.
It is a humndinger.
From my double cavity blocks and 16 to 1 alloy bullets drop at 283 grn.
That's the only two in the weight range you want I have used.
I'm sure there's others.
I may bid on the Lyman HP if it's not over $90 in the last few seconds of auction .

Thanks, I'll check it out.
For a full blow load out of my F/A 83 I'm using a 260 gr F/A JFP  with as much H110 as I can get in the case, (off the top of my head I think around 38 gr) Consistantly cronos 2025 to 2075. Very uncomfortable to shoot more then 5-10 rounds.  I'm looking for something a little more comfortable/ less expensive to be able to shoot 50-100 rounds in an afternoon, low end 44 mag pressure levels

H-110 & W-296 are the same powder.
You'll see some differences in load data ,but that's because of diff rent powder lots, guns ,brass, etc.
That RCBS 300-SWC -GC is what I was using for my heavy and light loads.
Then checks got so expensive I went to the 270 SAA , for light loads.
The RCBS 300 cast 318 grn bullets with Lyman #2 alloy.
I shot my best close range, hand gun group ever with it in the FA-83 & 10 grn of Unique.
It was .3 @ 80'

Knew about the powders. Seems like one of the powders (HP-38?) I used for the .38 was the same as a Winchester powder also. Just visited Winchester's site and under Components>Powder:

"Winchester Powder is now supplied by Hodgdon.

For information see the Winchester Smokeless Propellants web site developed by Hodgdon.

Al
Both of my molds cast .454-.455 , depending on temp. ,and alloy
I size them to .451 for the F.A.
.452 for my Ruger & Smith .45 Colts
My Dad has an old M-25 Smith that has .454 throats, I use a .454 sizer mainly to lube for it.
They work fine in all of them.

That Keith HP is up to $110 - OR $115 , with 8 hours left.
I've seen the Lyman .44 &.45 HP bring over $200.
May see what balistacast will build me one for.
I looked for you a used heavy .45 today on 4 or 5 sites.
Did'nt find anything.
Midwayusa  & buffaloarms have the RCBS .454- 270 SAA & .452 300 SWC-GC
Midwayusa was cheaper.
The problem with them is,say they have most of what you want and you back order the rest, they charge you shipping for every time they make partial shipment.

Thanks--
These guys may be worth checking out, around 100 bucks for a custom double mold.
http://mountainmolds.com/
Didn't see a hollow point, but it would be worth a call.
I was looking at a 325 gr mold, posted asking for comments but didn't get any input back then>

Hello again

I went to Moutainmolds, FAQ , it said they could not make hollow base , or ,hollow point.
If you want to desing one through their site.
You could take the RCBS 300 , and leave base plain, make the front driving wider , and  use deeper more tapered crimp groove.
If you only added nose lenght to equal the amount you added to the front driving band , it would probably weigh 325-350 grn.
Thanks for sending me that site.
I may do that myself.
Molds on ebay are bringing crazy prices.
That Lyman brought $155
I was watching an Hensley & Gibbs .30 FP and .45 acp.
They brought $159 & $ 194

By far the easiest way to produce HP cast bullets is to drill them. Fashion a jig and use a drill press. Anyone who's tried casting HP bullets will tell you, it's a pain......Creeker
