To make matters worst I don`t know exactly what I want, First of all I think I need more input, I am not planing on hunting with a single action it will be for target shooting, but I want 41 cal or larger a 5 1/2" to 6 1/2" barrel in length, lower mounted rear adjustable site not the ones that seem to catch on everything it comes near, not looking to mount a scope on the first ones, blue a must, case harden receiver is OK no stainless steel for me please, brass frame is cool, anyone have a quality six shooter that they might part with that`s still got life in it without investing the house or half of a gun vault or any ideas on what I might seek out? |

I've got a bucket full of 'em, $350-$450 is about the going rate, and they handle full blow loads. IMAO, a good all around 6 gun for the money. Scope mounts are available, although Elmer never would approve. If you are looking for new, lots of 6 guns at Cabellas when I was there the other day, seems like every manufaturer has a couple of models. |

buzzardpickins Registered: 08/23/09 Posts: 2 | 11/05/09 at 06:35 PM The beretta is a good gun . so is the taurus, it seems in the cowboy world (sass), the market is flooded and the numbers needed for profit aren't there so companys are getting out. HELL the gaucho was partly designed to be able to be fanned, just like OL'HOLLIDAY. Seriously, anyone know if Elmer and Co Charles Askins went toe to toe over handgun hunting? In Askins bookfrom 1953 " The Pistol Shooters Book " he wrote "People who should have better judgment, spin many dangerous yarns about shooting big game with the onehand gun. There isn't a pistol or revolver in existance that is fit to use on game the size of deer." He went on to explain that he was a "devotee" of small game handgun hunting, but the use of a 44spl on large game as just wrong. However he did acknowledge Elmer as "invaluable assistance" in the front of the book. I think it would have been a very lively debate around the campfire at deer camp. |
marksman45b Registered: 10/02/09 Posts: 74 | 11/06/09 at 06:48 AM I hunt white tail deer with a handgun a lot, the fish cops as we call them (Fish & Game Officers) one came upon me while I was on one of my stands a few years back walked up to me and started talking about this and that as he was doing so he was shifting his weight from one side to the other looking at the tree I was leaning against finally he mustered the courage to ask what I was doing , I am dressed in a full hunter orange camo pattern jump suit kind of thing with a face blocker on in the middle of deer season topped with a orange hat! I said I was hunting he then asked with what? I was tempted to say I was going to "grin them down" like Daniel Boone but our fish cops don`t have a sense of humor half way thru the season so I pulled my coat open a little to reveal a S&W M29 8 3/8" He was stunned he asked how accurate it was and what was the range. The first question was easy it`s deadly accurate! Second is harder it depends on whom is holding it at the time. My answer to the second one is if one can hit a 8" paper plate at 50 yds keep all 6 on but can`t keep all 6 on at 75 yds his range is 50 yds. Keep all 6 on at 150 yds and you don`t have to carry a rifle. I saw the fish cop at the range the next summer and gave him a peek at what one can do with a good revolver I pinged the 200yd B27 at will even let him have a go he went away with a new outlook on hunting handguns. |
