Al, Had the same thing happen with my early 454. With 2 weeks before I left for Africa the firing pin on my 454 broke. Sent it back to the factory and they rushed it back to me in 2 days with the removable bushing like yours. I used it loaded with the original FA`s 300grJFP ammo to take a good blesbok.
My favorite whitetail load is a double crimp 300gr XTP over H-4227 for around 1450FPS. Hit em at any angle plus its not bad to shoot. Because of an injury to my wrist I sent the 454 to Mag-na-port for their brake and that helped tremendously. Have model 83`s in 357, 44, 454, and 475. The 357 shoots a load of Blue Dot over a 180gr XTP for 1650+fps with 2" to 3" at 100yds. Originally bought it for coyote but its good for up to medium size game. These guns are so damm accurate. They can shoot much better then I can. The 475 is for Alaskan grizz/moose hunt at the end of the month .Hope I can get a shot.Recently shooting at 100yds from the bench the 475 made a 2" x 2 1/2"  (cxc) group using 425gr WFNGC at 1300FPS.
These are very accurate handguns.        James
