I read his autobiography when it came out as I'd always read his articles. I wish I had had the idea to believe I could have actually met the man before he left us but during that time, I couldn't have dreamed it was a possibility. He was already a legend and couldn't have spared his time for wet behind the ears kids. I've been wrong a time or two before and many times since.
I think the single most amazing ability Mr. Keith possessed was his ability to write (and I suspect, to communicate in person). I think it is unusual for anyone with his level of education to be able to write (and write he did) in a manner that adequately conveys his rich experience in a detail most of us can understand. It's a rare trait.
The second most amazing ability was his ability understand the science behind shooting. It's true he tested the limits from time to time but it's arguable the risk was calculated.
He was an amazing fellow on several levels.
