OK her is what I found in G&A Big Bore Rifles from about 1983 using Hornady solids 500 grains, 215 Fedral primers, 88 grains of IMR 4064 this gives 2,350 fps. Using a Hornady soft point they up the charge to 90 grains.
A warning bearing surface and bullet composition can radically change pressure.
2,350 fps is an ideal velocity for full penetration using a good solid on raking shots for buffalo, and head or body shots on jumbo.
By far the best solid out there is the Barnes super solid especially as they have recently improved it with bands and a blunt nose. I HAVE USUALLY EXPERIENCED HIGHER PRESSURE USING THESE SOLIDS. I suggest working your load up starting below their published loads. Be careful!
