I quit shooting my Rem. 700 in 375 H&H a while back when my physical condition got the better of me and concentrated on my smaller, more managable guns, mostly handguns and 22's for plinking. I paid more attention to my handguns and left the long guns alone.
I sure missed my rifles and happened to read an article by John Taffin where he described a new stock that reduced recoil dramatically. The Knoxx stock was supposed to reduce recoil by half! Bold claim. I was so intrigued I ordered one for my 700. I installed it and waited for a decent spring day to test it, and today was the day. To say it worked is an under statement. I shot in 78* weather in a tee-shirt and was amazed. The stock actually collapses as the gun recoils and a heavy spring absorbs the shock. I felt as if I had just shot a mild 30-30 load. The stock is very nice looking as it is a Hogue rubber over molded and the recoil system looks like a slip-on recoil pad from the outside. Whatever is inside sure works and I am pleased as punch. I can now shoot my favorite rifle again, within reason, and enjoy it without pain. You cannot say the caliber lacked penetration.

Anyway I liked the caliber not the package so I sent it off to Frank Wells who restocked it added steel open sights, a muzzle brake and an internal stock recoil reducer. I used the 416 to take most of the game which was loaded with Federals factory ammo using Trophy Bonded 400gr softpoints and solids. The 454 used Cor-Bons
320gr jacketed solid ammo. The 416 had no trouble taking game from impala up to Cape buffalo. The buff was a little young and soft in the boss but I had no complaints. The first shot with a 400gr SP, I found out later upon skinning, was through the heart and I followed up with three solids and one more when he was down. Tough animal.... The 416 had a muzzle brake ,installed by Mag-na-port, after the scope busted me over the eye in practice. The female impala taken with the 454 was for hyenia bait. Never took heynia..but got a nice blesbok and kudu with the Casull.....
Forum: Rifles http://albroswift.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=3804822 Wed, 11 Nov 2009 03:14:12 GMT Jamesfromjersey Keith Concept Military Rifle http://albroswift.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=3764326 Going from memory, maybe page 164-5 in H.I.W.T.!, Mr. Keith wrote his specifications for an improved military rifle. (I borrowed the book, no copy here.) It used the best of...the Enfield, Garand and Springfield.
Anybody know if this has ever been made?
What would be close?
Thank you.

Forum: Rifles http://albroswift.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=3764326 Wed, 28 Oct 2009 00:54:42 GMT DavidB Good Medicine for Lions http://albroswift.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=3501478 Just picked up the 405 from the Blue'r Man, fitted the Lyman 21 sight after work. The rifle is a second year production, however it has a 24" barrel that was used only on 1st year 375`s. The gun is perfect except for about
50% of the blue being worn away on the magazine floor plate from being carried by the original owner. I`ve seen the same rifle go for almost $5000 and other pre 64 gun prices go through the ceiling and I wanted to know if any of the members would know a fair value for this rifle. Thank you for any information.

Forum: Rifles http://albroswift.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=3393030 Sun, 29 Mar 2009 14:56:03 GMT Jamesfromjersey New Rifle http://albroswift.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=3177297 Just got a H&R Classic Target (38-55).
Came with two boxes Black Hills ammo, about forty emptys and a sack of cast 250? gr. w/gas checks.
