I had Andy Horvath build this replica. I used more contemporary sites. It is on a Colt New Frontier flat top 44 special. Grips will eventually be ivory and I am thinking of having it engraved. If the economy ever turns around.

Andy Horvath is a fantastic pistol smith ask Taffin he has done numerous projects for me and my friends. Not only talented but fairly priced.

One of the few things not covered in a skin its some sort of woven plant material photo album cover. I like natural skins and keep a fair supply of jumbo tanned for upholstery on hand for special projects

I had Mr Horvath work over a couple of Marlins,an 1894 FG .41 mag. and an 1894 CL 32-20.
One of my favorite features on the two were replacing the safties with saddle rings.
The triggers and actions are second to none.
I told him I was going to use the 32-20 for my small game hunting with Mtn .Curs and he got the trigger 2# on it.
The 32-20 was a basket case.
I bought it new and sent it back to Marlin , and it still wouldn't feed.
Now it is flawless.
I could go on and on about MR. Horvath.

I will post some more photos after I get a chance to take them. He altered a Bisley back strap I am not sure where he got it but it was definitely not Clements. He also fabricates parts as he needs them.

Gorgeous gun. Does it have a locking base pin latch? Andy did a #5 for me but I didn't think to ask for that.

It has the latch the only metal work we did not copy besides engraving were the sites     I will post photos of different angles

OK I will attach more photos But note the following.

1. I used a Colt New Frontier I am very happy with choice.
2. Most if not all NF have over sized throats.
3. We used a new cylinder in the 44 so Andy could line bore it and throat it properly.
4. We re chambered my old 44 cylinder for a 45 NF
5. Left over NF parts can be sold
6. Full action job.
7. I choose a Weigand front site with interchangeable blades.
8. Andy can knock off original Keith sites I preferred sites I could see and use
9. The back strap is a Bisley altered to fit the standard front strap.

I am also posting photos of a custom 29 Andy built as when I shared these photos with John Taffin he mentioned that the gun looks like one that was built for Keith so its relevant to this site. This was a surprise because it was built around specs I came up with I had no idea nor have I seen photos of Keith's gun. I guess great minds think alike?

What a sweet gun. When you say he could make Keiths sights, you mean the adjustible front sight?

I imagine he used the front strap and bought a Bisley backstrap and hammer.

Yes the front site adjusted for elevation the rear was drifted for windage.

THAT HEAVY BARREL S&W LOOKS VERY GOOD. I WOULD BET IT HOLDS VERY STEADY ON TARGET.
IT IS SIMILAR TO THE ONE THAT WAS BUILT FOR KEITH BY BILL DAVIS OF THE CAKE DAVIS CO.. GUN NOTES SEPTEMBER 1977 "BULL BARREL TARGET S&Ws".

The latch in image 2, I have not seen this before, is this unique to Andy's work or are there S/A revolvers that this is common to?

The first time I saw such a latch was on Keith's # 5 I assume Croft developed it. The purpose of the latch and large head cylinder pin is for easy removal.

Thought I'd post the 44 spl Clements Custom Guns did for me on a 357 Ruger several years ago. I didn't think to ask him if a locking base pin latch was possible.

Very nice gun target shooter. You could put the #5 latch on it but it does require welding the frame hole. If you do not already have one a belt mountain pin with a set screw is a very good improvement usually gets rid of slop in the factory pin and can lock up so the pin does not come forward or disengage under recoil.

I WILL HAVE TO HAVE A # 5 BUILT ONE DAY. I WILL USE SAFARI'S AND YOUR GUNS FOR INSPIRATION.

Thanks Safari. Mad, he made a one-piece custom rear sight to resemble the original. He's in the process of making two #5s on USFAs which he said he'd post a pic of when they're done. I swapped him an officers target barrel so he could see how the original adjustible front sight was made. At the time he built mine he wouldn't make one so l had it made by a local machinist.
