I always wonder what Elmer would think about some of the trends or items in the shooting world today.  Here are my guesses:

I'm pretty sure he would think my Desert Eagles are silly and impractical.

He would just scratch his head at all the short magnums in the rifle market.

He would shake his head at all the "tactical" AR platforms and ask "What are they good for?"

He might nod his head at a X Frame 500 S&W, might, that is.

He would hate the locks on S&W revolvers.

He would not pay much attention to polymer framed semi auto pistols.

I don't think he's like Cowboy Action Shooting at all.

We could run with this one...

I wonder what his thoughts would be on our current political situation. I assume he would be happy that he lived in a different era.

I wonder what he'd think of all the mega-bore single actions. Considering the things he did with the 44 spl and 44 mag.

From what I know of Elmer I don't think he would be happy having Jack O'Conner mentioned in a positive way on his forum.

I think he would be ashamed of us for not taking to the streets.

I bet Elmer would surprise us on a couple things. He actually did not badmouth the 1911 much. Actually admitted it was a good gun.
He had one foot in the past and another in the present. Folks think of him as a conservative Old guy but he was pretty progressive in many ways in his experimenting. He used Newtons and other guns that were definite advances for that time. He started out using Sharps but moved past that to more technologically advanced guns. His stocks were definitely not old fashioned!
He was an emminently practical man.
His ideas on Infantry rifles was a bit outdated though. He did not like or understand modern assault rifles. That's where he was pretty old fashioned.
I have wondered about Cowboy Action Shooting and Elmer. I am not at all sure of what he would think. Probably positive in that it promoted handguns and revolvers and shooting.

He would not like the single shot rule with pumps, and the 2 handed rule with revolvers. He would not have liked the loaded down game loads that are allowed, and the wimpy 38s that rule.
He would have liked the frontier matches, and the long range Sharps matches.
He would have straighted out a lot of misconceptions on what the West was really like, and set up a course of fire where you shot across a street, or from behind a door. Remember he said in Hell I was there, it was not the fastest man that won a gunfight, it was the first man that shot the other. Like he told the bad egg in Ovando, you bought it, and paid for it, If I see you anywhere I will give it to you. And I don't think he was thinking about giving the man a fair chance.
