Hi Fella's,
At my local library, they had a hard back copy of Elmer Keith's "Hell, I Was There" that I've taken out 6 times in the last 4 yrs. The binding was unfortunately broke in 3 places.  I knew I was the only person to check this book out over the last 4 yrs., so I asked one of the ladies there that I know, if I might be able to buy the book since I was the only one reading it and its binding was broke.  I asked them if they would be willing to sell it to me and if so I let them set the price. Other than the binding problem, the book was VERY CLEAN WITH NO MILDEW ODOR.   The lady went into the back to the librarian for a few minutes,  which seemed like an hour, came back and said its yours for $15.00 !!!!!!!!!!!!!   I THEN ALMOST THREW MY ARM OUT OF PLACE REACHING BACK FOR MY WALLET !   When I got home I got out my Elmers Glue & soaked down the sections that were ripped out & rapped it with heavy rubber bands & let dry for 3 days.   I'm happy to report that I now have a very nice copy of "Hell, I Was There" with a newly repaired binding !  So Guys, check your library's & ask.  You might also be pleasantly surprised.

Hello Len and Mike,
Your right,  It seems that alot of the good old gun & hunting books are  going by the way-side for some reason ?  Although  this day & age I think alot of old timers that hunted all their lives are dying and the newer generation of Dads aren't introducing their kids to hunting or guns because it not as acceptable as days gone by.
Len, I  hope you have good luck with your book if you try glueing it.  The lady at my library explained to me how to do it & it worked fine.  You can't even tell there was a problem.  I've been check various book sites on the internet for this book and the prices made me sick!  Somewhere back around 1981-1985 I bought a copy of "Hell I Was There" for my older brother who like to shoot back then. Well I THINK he read it and then stored it in his basement where it became very moldy and really stunk !  Ruined !   So I was very happy when my library was willing to sell me theirs.
Good luck & take care !
Chris

Great find! I found one of Elmer's books ("Shotguns") in a bookstore in Lake Placid, NY, while on vacation there about 10 yrs. ago. Paid $10 for it, in almost new condition. Just proves that it pays to keep your eyes peeled at all times, as you never know when you might stumble onto a good deal.
