I have always kept mine in cases when not in use but I see quite a few pictures with old guns stored in holsters. Thanks, Chris |

I have seen some revolvers from the east side of Montana which were stored in leather holsters for periods of years look like new when removed from the holster. I have also seen some come out of a holster that made you feel sick just looking at them. I store mine on rubber coated steel racks in the safe. The one that's not in the safe is stainless, is loaded and kept in an El Paso Saddlery holster. |

Some cheaper holsters may use chemicals that can help corrode the guns along with moisture the leather picks up from the atmosphere. Better holster makers generally use leather that has the proper tanning process that avoids that. The key is low humidity and all will be well. However, I keep my pistols in Boyt handgun rugs/cases when not in use. Cartridges can definately become corroded in belt cartridge holders if left in too long. No matter what leather used. |
