A number of years ago I went to their headquarters in Wyoming and ordered a 454 and never looked back. Do any of the members own a FA and what do you think of them?? |

One .454 Magna Ported Field Grade, sent it back to the factory and they drilled and tapped the firing pin recess, makes the pin replaceable like the new style. ( Dry firing tends to send the tip if the pin out the barrel at a pretty good velocity.) |

Sent it back to the factory and they rushed it back to me in 2 days with the removable bushing like yours. I used it loaded with the original FA`s 300grJFP ammo to take a good blesbok. |

My magna port is 2 small slots on either side of the barrel, the 2 closer to the muzzle at 11:00 and 1:00, the 2 closer to the breach at 10:00 and 2:00. You can see the one closer to the breach in this photo, and the discoloration on the front sight from the one (similar size) not visible: |

My hunting load was a 305 grain GC over 33 gns 296 for an honest 1850 fps. I guided some deer hunters and they bought me a box of FA factory 260s that chronographed 2015 FPS. Not enough front sight to make use of the velocity. Years of recoil and a desire for a more portable package made me send it in and have it shortnened to 4 3/4 and rethink my loads. I now load 360 GC with 22 gns of 296 for around 1200fps. Slower recoil speed and it'll still shoot thru a buick. I pack it religiously here in NW Wyo bear country. Back in the day when I first purchased it FA provided you with type pages of loading data as there wasn't moch info available to the public. Quite probably the finest made revolver ever made. As tight today as it was new in the 80s |
albroswift Registered: 06/02/08 Posts: 581 | 09/16/09 at 05:46 AM Can't go wrong with a FA. The pressure levels suggested nowaday's don't do the revolvers justice. I use H110 and never leave room in the case! |
