Interesting
Makes me think the .45 would stop an invader quicker than any of the three, with FMJ.
That bigger hole is going to let a lot of air in , and blood out.
I use all three rounds for home defense , plus a 12 Ga.
Depending on what room I'm in.
I would'nt use FMJ for defense.
I only use'em for cheap plinking.
We were shooting milk jugs with ARs yesterday , using Rem. 55 grn. FMJ and 25 grn. of Varget for 3500 FPS in 20" bl.
They did'nt even let the water out of the jugs ,did'nt blow the lids of or nothing.
Then we started sooting'em with 36 grn Barnes Varmint Grenades, and 25.3 grn of RL-10.
You should have seen that.
It was blowing jug every where ,as high as 3'and 4'.
I switched to a lighter load @ 2800 FPS ,and put two jugs back to back, the jacket stayed in the first jug and the core came out of the first jug in three pieces , then stayed in the second jug.
It's amazing how much or how little a round can do just by changing the bullet.

Not so sure about  Hollow points VS FMJ, shot some .45 golden saybers into a phone book at +p velocities, not a lot of penetration. Brother shot a deer with a .357 hollow point, similar results.  I think (Comming from a hunting viewpoint) I'd rather break some bones then have the intruder bleed all over the place. Maybe some more tests are in order. Good for some more disscussion.
PS Any Ammo is better then no ammo...

I just noticed I made a mistake.
The 3500 FPS was for the varmint grenade.
The Rem.55 fmj were only doing 2750 in the 20" AR.

Your right any bullet is better than no bullet.
Almost any thing will work if everything is going your way.
Most of the time what can go wrong , will.
That's why I like using mission specific ammo , when I can.

I wouldn't HUNT with HP, in .223 or .357.
The AR I keep lying around is loaded with Sierra 65 grn. Game Kings.
I keep my S&W 340 M&P loaded with 170 Keith's.
I am open to change if someone shows me something I think is better.

I've started testing full wad cutters in the 340.
I can only stand the blast of 38+p in the 1 7/8" bl. and am thinking the wad cutter may be a better choice at 750 fps I'm getting.

That seemed a little fast, but not being one to call BS...
