I bet Elmer would surprise us on a couple things. He actually did not badmouth the 1911 much. Actually admitted it was a good gun. He had one foot in the past and another in the present. Folks think of him as a conservative Old guy but he was pretty progressive in many ways in his experimenting. He used Newtons and other guns that were definite advances for that time. He started out using Sharps but moved past that to more technologically advanced guns. His stocks were definitely not old fashioned! He was an emminently practical man. His ideas on Infantry rifles was a bit outdated though. He did not like or understand modern assault rifles. That's where he was pretty old fashioned. I have wondered about Cowboy Action Shooting and Elmer. I am not at all sure of what he would think. Probably positive in that it promoted handguns and revolvers and shooting.
