I own a few 5 shot single actions by Freedom Arms. I know they are expensive but I feel its money well spent. A number of years ago I went to their headquarters in Wyoming and ordered a 454 and never looked back. Do any of the members own a FA and what do you think of them??

I have less then a few but more then zero. One .454 Magna Ported Field Grade, sent it back to the factory and they drilled and tapped the firing pin recess, makes the pin replaceable like the new style. ( Dry firing tends to send the tip if the pin out the barrel at a pretty good velocity.)
Shoot it every year at the Elmer Keith Shoot. Favorite load is a .45 Colt case filled with H110 tight to the bottom of a Freedom Arms 260 gr  Flat Point or a Hornaday 260 XTP Mag, around 1400 FPS. Easy shooting load, less kick and more power then a .44 Mag. Or for a full blow load  as much H110 as I can fit in a Starline .454 Casull Case and the 260 FAFP bullet. Small Magnum Rifle Primer.  Fills the cylinder to the point the bullet scrapes a little on the forcing cone. Out the barrel over 2000 fps. NOT an easy shooting load!

PS What is a "few"?

Al, Had the same thing happen with my early 454. With 2 weeks before I left for Africa the firing pin on my 454 broke. Sent it back to the factory and they rushed it back to me in 2 days with the removable bushing like yours. I used it loaded with the original FA`s 300grJFP ammo to take a good blesbok.
My favorite whitetail load is a double crimp 300gr XTP over H-4227 for around 1450FPS. Hit em at any angle plus its not bad to shoot. Because of an injury to my wrist I sent the 454 to Mag-na-port for their brake and that helped tremendously. Have model 83`s in 357, 44, 454, and 475. The 357 shoots a load of Blue Dot over a 180gr XTP for 1650+fps with 2" to 3" at 100yds. Originally bought it for coyote but its good for up to medium size game. These guns are so damm accurate. They can shoot much better then I can. The 475 is for Alaskan grizz/moose hunt at the end of the month .Hope I can get a shot.Recently shooting at 100yds from the bench the 475 made a 2" x 2 1/2"  (cxc) group using 425gr WFNGC at 1300FPS.
These are very accurate handguns.        James

Nice Collection. My magna port is 2 small slots on either side of the barrel, the 2 closer to the muzzle at 11:00 and 1:00, the 2 closer to the breach at 10:00 and 2:00. You can see the one closer to the breach in this photo, and the discoloration on the front sight from the one (similar size) not visible:

My 83 was born with the 7 1/2 " barrel and accounted for many antelope and a few mule deer. My hunting load was a 305 grain GC over 33 gns 296 for an honest 1850 fps. I guided some deer hunters and they bought me a box of FA factory 260s that chronographed 2015 FPS. Not enough front sight to make use of the velocity. Years of recoil and a desire for a more portable package made me send it in and have it shortnened to 4 3/4 and rethink my loads. I now load 360 GC with 22 gns of 296 for around 1200fps. Slower recoil speed and it'll still shoot thru a buick. I pack it religiously here in NW Wyo bear country. Back in the day when I first purchased it FA provided you with type pages of loading data as there wasn't moch info available to the public. Quite probably the finest made revolver ever made. As tight today as it was new in the 80s

Can't go wrong with a FA. The pressure levels suggested nowaday's don't do the revolvers justice. I use H110 and never leave room in the case!
